1st BCLA Asia conference was successfully completed

The first ever BCLA Asia conference was successfully completed on September 13 and 14 at the Cordis Hotel, Langham Place in Hong Kong. This event was co-organized by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the Hong Kong Cornea and Contact Lens Society (HKCCLS).

The BCLA, established in 1977, has almost 40 years of history and is a world-renowned association that provides cutting edge contact lens and related education to practitioners. BCLA organizes various meetings and international conferences to educate, interact and promote growth within the contact lens field. HKCCLS, although much younger than BCLA, also has the mission to promote quality contact lens practice and to support ongoing professional education. It was exciting for BCLA and HKCCLS to co-host BCLA ASIA 2016 in Hong Kong and, in general, delegates and sponsors had nothing but good comments on the event.

We were honored to have Prof. Joseph Lee Kok-Long, a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, representing the Health Services functional constituency, to give an encouraging speech at the opening ceremony. Prof. Lee acknowledged and recognized the need for proper optometric service and care in Hong Kong.

The conference theme was “Correction for the Future” with sessions involving the latest research and clinical guidance on topics including dry eye management, myopia control, presbyopia, cosmetic contact lenses and so on. This meeting attracted more than 200 experts from around the world including optometrists, ophthalmologists and professors.

We would like to thank members who support this event, especially those who put in a lot of time and effort to prepare for the event and to ensure that the event ran smoothly. Without your support, this event would not have been successful!
